Why We Love Hair Extensions…
- Sick of waiting for your own hair to grow longer?
- Need a boost of volume that lasts for more than a few hours?
- Suffering from hair loss?
Hair Extensions are a fantastic way of adding either thickness, length or dashes of vibrant new colour to your own hair, instantly. We understand that as frustrating as it may be, not all of us are blessed with naturally thick, long, glossy locks. This is where the team of dedicated Hair Extension experts at our hair salon in Bishop’s Stortford come in!
Different Types Of Hair Extensions
Micro-ring extensions: Also known as Pre-Tipped I-Tip Extensions. This is a no heat/no glue method where the I-Tip Extensions are attached to your own hair using micro links or micro rings. This method should keep your extensions in securely for up to 2 months, when properly maintained and cared for.
Pre-Bonded U-Tip Extensions: Also called nail tip, these are made of several strands of hair bonded together at the tip with keratin glue. This method uses a Heating wand, that melts the glue securing the extension to your own hair. The Fusion method should keep your extensions in securely for 3 to 4 months, when maintained and cared for regularly.
We only use extensions made with Remy Hair, which is truly the finest quality used in making hair extensions.
Getting The Best From Your Hair Extensions
After the application of your hair we recommend you use only professional products recommended by your stylist. This is to ensure your natural hair is restored and at the same time conditions the hair extensions.
We do not recommend colouring, tinting or perming the extension hair as these types of products contain elements that can damage the extension hair and even though our extensions are 100% human hair, they are not receiving nutrients from the scalp like your own natural hair.
The more heat you use on the hair extension the shorter the life span of the hair, treat your extensions with the same respect as you would with you own natural hair, superior aftercare and regular maintenance will keep your hair feeling and looking great for longer.
If you have had pre-bonded extensions, after the application of your hair, we recommend that you avoid washing your hair for at least 2-3 days and use a dry shampoo from Redken or Paul Mitchell on any oily root areas as this allows the bonds to fully harden. The longer you wait, the better it is for the longevity of the bonds.
We recommend tying your hair back in a loose ponytail or plait using a soft scrunchie for bed.
The Importance of Good Aftercare
It is crucial that you make the most of your extensions by taking good care of them and using the correct products. Correct aftercare is just as important as fitting the extensions correctly. Many people try to save money on aftercare by watering down regular shampoo’s/conditioners etc to “make do” which can have really disastrous results such as dryness, matting and dullness in the extensions.
Hair extensions are a great way to change your look but they do require some maintenance and care. Once you have had your extensions fitted your stylist will guide you through how best to look after your new hair. Hair extensions often cost a lot of money and can take a while to attach, so it is in your interest to look after them properly.
Once you have washed your hair you need to take extra care when drying and styling it. The hair is at its weakest when wet so ensure it is dried gently and handled carefully. Hair extensions will last longer and look better for longer when properly taken care of so it is well worth taking the extra time to get it right.
When brushing your hair, make sure you are using a hair extension brush as this is specifically designed for your extensions. Other brushes with balls on the ends can rip and break the hair. You need to keep your extensions tangle free by brushing your hair up to two times a day, but avoid over-brushing as this can cause unnecessary shedding.
It is perfectly normal to lose some hairs when brushing, remember most people actually lose up to 100 hairs a day! You are actually doing less damage to your hair by having extensions as you aren’t using heat directly on to your own hair.
It is advisable to have a maintenance appointment a month after you’ve had your extensions fitted to make sure everything is going well. For more advice or for a free consultation, please contact us.
What Hair Extension Brands Do We Work With?
We are proud to work with several professional hair extension brands which gives our clients the option to choose, with our guidance and expertise, the best hair extensions for your own hair needs. Here is a little more about the two types of hair extensions in Bishop’s Stortford we offer:
Cinderella Hair Extensions
100% Remy human hair, Cinderella Hair Extensions are sourced with integrity from reputable suppliers and certified as ‘Conscience Clear’, and are proving to be a real favourite at our Bishop’s Stortford Hairdressers. Cinderella selects only the best quality, softest and silkiest hair. You can choose from straight, body wave, curly permed or Afro texture.
Their pre-bonded hair extensions have a protein moulded bond (PMB) which will not harm your own hair. All the hair is cuticle correct to avoid tangling. There are over 60 different colours, including a palette of 20 blondes, pastel shades and a range of fiery reds so you can colour-match or go for more dramatic effects…including bang-on-trend ombre!
These hair extensions are easily maintained if you follow the advice of your Elements stylist, while Cinderella’s own dedicated product range has been specially formulated to care for the extensions.
How do I look after them?
We advise you visit the salon within the first week to check the extensions, and at least once a month after for a maintenance check. Allow a little extra time each day to look after your Cinderella extensions, but otherwise you can treat them just like your own hair.
Balmain Hair Extensions
Top quality hair extensions are all about how the hair is sourced, made, and the company behind it. Over forty years ago, Parisian based fashion mega brand Balmain set out on a mission to put their behind the scenes catwalk expertise to good use.
They began sourcing, selecting and processing the finest hair in the world. The team at Elements Hair, Bishop’s Stortford are trained in the art of applying pre-bonded Balmain Hair Extensions. This method is one of the most well known ways of applying hair extensions, attaching the hair via a keratin bond.
Scientifically proven not to damage hair, these rice-grain sized bonds are virtually translucent and undetectable. Balmain bonded hair extensions will last for 2-3 months and can be re-applied by your Elements Hair Extension specialist.
